Are We Willing?

To all those who have inspired me and countless others.

Are we willing to stand up and make strong decisions for the Lord? This is a question we all have to answer. Whether or not we consciously answer, we are compelled to answer this question daily through the way we live our lives. Are we willing to stand up and make strong, often hard decisions in order to live a life of faith, wholeheartedly given to Jesus? It struck me today, that every one of my ‘heroes in the faith, was faced with this question and answered a resounding “YES”, when the Lord called them. Look at the lives of Elizabeth Elliot, Amy Carmichael, Katie Davis to name a few. Look at the lives of Mary, Ruth, Esther, the disciples or almost any prominent bible characters. These are the sorts of people Paul calls us to aspire to be like in Philippians, this is the heart that God calls us to. Are we willing?

So here are today’s musings…

As I peruse my bookcase filled with many incredible men and women of God, who, through Him have lived extraordinary lives, one thing remains constant. They were willing to say yes to God. Hard yeses. They were willing to stand up and leave behind family, jobs, health, country and so much more. But while they felt the pain of the sacrifice, they counted the suffering of this life temporary, small, insignificant in the light of what is to come. What a lesson that is for us today! Are we willing to give up everything to say the strong, hard YES to Jesus?

Where should we be saying YES today?
