Authority

John 12:44-50

Jesus says He does not speak on His own authority, but rather He speaks on the authority of the Father. How much more should we not speak on our own authority?! If Jesus who is equal to the Father in every way, in deity, wisdom, power, infinitely part of the Trinity, submits and speaks from the Father’s authority; how much more should we, as fallible, fallen, finite beings not speak from our own authority but from the Father’s?

I realise we do not know the Father in the same way, with the same oneness or insight like Jesus did, also being God. We do, however, have the Bible, prayer and a rich heritage of believers on which to draw. This shows us what is God’s authority on any issues we may face. And if we don’t understand why God would be a certain way, we have the ability to come to Him, which is one of the most special and beautiful parts of Christianity (aside from the cross). We serve a God who loves us, and genuinely wants to teach us, instruct us and comfort us. If we come with open hearts to know Him, we will not be disappointed.

Lets pray that God will give us the humility and strength to stop living and speaking in our own authority and start living for the Father.
