A daily thought…

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
Psalm 42:11 ESV

Life is hard. Life is stressful. Life often feels like a never ending treadmill of trouble.

It is so easy to become down cast in the repetitive humdrum and challenges of life. I never realised what a state of constant anxiety I lived in until I stopped. When COVID hit and the world stopped, for the first time in years I was at peace. I was free of the constant stress of work and keeping up the Jones. Now that it is all coming back, I realise how stressed, anxious and down cast I have become. It’s as if a switch has been flipped in my mind and I’m suddenly back on the treadmill.

What a timely reminder this verse is. No matter how we feel and what’s going on around us, we are to turn to God. Instead of worring, we are called to put our hope in Him. This isn’t a flippant, careless hope, this is a solid hope based in what God has already done for us. A hope grounded in our salvation. This is what God has called us too and this is what He reminds us of in this verse. The psalmist calls us to turn our eyes upon Jesus full of hope and praise for what He has done and what He will do.
