A daily thought.

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:17 ESV

Today’s bible verse was incredibly well timed, as if God knew this would be what I needed to read today. Recently I have been in a huge dilemma with regards to work, further study and maintaining my health. I have no idea what to do and feel very overwhelmed by it all. Long story short, I’ve been begging God for direction and He sends this verse along with a podcast and a book all in one day. How amazing is that!

I think one of the things this verse teaches us is that we are called to serve God regardless of what that actually looks like. While it is good and important to seek God and His plans and purposes for us, I think this verse teaches us it is also vitally important to work hard at whatever we find in front of us and as we dedicate our actions to Him and are thankful for everything He has done, He will bless and guide it.

This verse also teaches us that God cares about everything we say and do. It’s easy to think God only cares about the big things, the important things. But the beauty of God is that He is a relational God. He cares about us because He loves us, nothing at all to do with what we can or can’t give Him. And because He cares about us, He cares about what we say and do, nothing is too small or too insignificant for God. In fact, a dear old great man of God was very fond of saying, We major in the things God minors in and majors in the things we minor in. I think that’s why God calls us to dedicate everything to Him (not only because He cares), but also because with our warped view of reality we often miss the point of what God is doing or cares about.

As humans we will never fully comprehend God but we can be thankful and live our lives in service to Him.
