Because I live, you also will live.
John 14:19b ESV
Tonight I heard the devastating news that beloved apologist and author, Dr Ravi Zacharias has gone to be with the Lord. There are no words to describe the loss which will be felt globally. Many have said that Ravi has been the most influential apologist of our time, doing as he so loved to say, “bridging the gap between the head to the heart”.
Ravi’s passion and dedication to His Lord and the gospel was second to none. His words were characterised by love and seasoned by grace. He was never afraid to apologise, caring more about the relationship than winning an argument. Right up until the end his intellect was as razor sharp, helping people to see the truth through his special blend of wisdom, philosophy, love, passion and genius. He truely was one of a kind. Thank you Ravi for all you have done!
But in keeping with Ravi’s humble nature, it would be impossible to write anything about him without pointing it back to Him, his beloved Lord and Saviour. Jesus Christ was the centre of Ravi’s life and that was impossible to miss. Jesus was preached and honoured in Ravi’s life, a man of his word without hypocrisy.
John 14:19b is a verse I have heard Ravi quote countless times over the years.
Because I live, you also will live.
John 14:19b ESV
Because Christ lives, we will also live. It doesn’t say, if you complete enough good works, say the right things and act a certain way you will have life, but rather our salvation is nothing to do with our actions but is a flow on affect from what Christ has done. I love the fact that this verse comes prior to the cross, Jesus knew that He would rise again and bring life. This adds such weight to the argument that He willingly laid down His life and the picked it up again that we might live. Not just on earth, but more importantly eternity, with our Saviour. This verse has become infinitely more true for Ravi today as he has finally gone to be with the one he has faithfully loved and served for so many years.
What a beautiful testimony, Ravi’s life, his passion, commitment, his wit and most importantly his love. Bring people together from all worldviews by finding peace and common ground, all the while slicing through deception and religious jargon.
Thank you Lord for blessing this world with such a faithful and incredible servant and exposer of the truth. God speed Ravi, God bless
♡
