A daily verse ~ Prayer

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.
Colossians 4:2 ESV

Today I was listening to a really interesting podcast called Ask Away with Vince and Jo Vitale with guest speaker Francis Chan. And they were speaking on what our western churches should look like and they made a few really interesting points.

One, are we characterised by Christ’s forgiveness? Radical forgiveness is what we as Christians are called to and should be a defining element of being Christian.

Two, are we characterised by radical unity? As the church we are called to be one body of Christ not many separate bodies and this should be demonstrated by how we live our lives.

Thirdly, and perhaps the most powerful for me today, what percentage of our time are we spending in reality. By reality they didn’t mean not on technology, your phone etc. Rather, how much time do you spend in the spiritual eternity which will be the reality for the rest of time? Flesh and blood are just a distraction from the spiritual. It’s scary when you think about percentages what a small percent consists of all our bible reading, praying and dwelling. So much of our time is spent else where! Yet, we are warned time and time again in the Bible not to be distracted by flesh and blood but rather to focus on what is important and eternal.

After all, our job is to point to Jesus, nothing more but nothing less.
