Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:8 ESV
Loving one another. Truly, practically, wholly loving one another.
In the midst of the chaos and upheaval all around the world in the current state of affairs, floods, fires, COVID-19, riots, many people are crying out for peace. Many people are looking at society and wondering how did we get here. Even more are wondering where do we go from here. How can we repair what seems to be irreparable? That is the problem, centuries of hurt can not be fixed by a change of law, practices or policies. In fact, many would say that it is irreparable. But this is not the case, at least not from a biblical perspective.
In fact Jesus, Himself, says, “I come to make all things new”. So if Jesus is making all things new that includes this too! So how can the irreparable be repaired? Through love. Not just any love, true, practical, whole, full love. It requires the sort of love that 1 Corthians talks about, the sort of love this verse talks about. Real, earnest, unbiased love. This is the sort of love which isn’t blind to flaws but chooses to live anyway. It is the true sort of love which loves regardless to any chance it might be repaid.
Disney was right, love can change the world but only true love. When every race, tribe, tongue, political party, can choose to love one another despite of the differences. That is when we will finally find the peace we crave.
