A daily thought ~ strength.

Wait for the Lord ; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord !
Psalm 27:14 ESV

What an encouragement this is!

Wait for the Lord ~ the Lord is ready and willing to act in His perfect timing! We can wait for the Lord because we trust Him, we know Him to be good and faithful to fulfill His promises.

Be strong ~ when we are waiting for the Lord, we are exhorted to be strong. We are not to give up easily because His timing or ways are not our own nor if we feel overwhelmed and hardpressed. Instead we are to press on in faith and truth towards the incorruptible promise that He is working all things together for good for those who love Him.

Let your heart take courage ~ our spirit filled hearts want to take courage. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, there is not any room for fear, since perfect love drives out fear. Since this is the case, its not so much struggling to make our hearts courageous (a very challenging task indeed!), we are called to LET our heart take courage. The language in the verse is beautiful as it points out the different heart attitude we as Christians should approach life from. We need to let go of our worldly need for control, to hold on, to be in charge, because when we cling to these things, we not only take them, but we also bring other things like fear, malice, envy, jealousy etc along for the ride. When we are able to let go of these things and trust fully on God, then we are able to Let our hearts take courage.

Finally, we are back to the initial instruction, Wait for the Lord. Waiting for and on the Lord isn’t a one time thing. Something we can tick off the list but rather a way of life, a habit we are to return to every day and moment of our lives.

It never ceases to amaze me how something which is so simple, three short exhortations, can turn into something so beautiful and life changing when it is applied. This verse is no exception, these principles when lived out for God can make beautiful and lasting changes in people’s lives.
