If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.
Deuteronomy 30:16 ESV
How often we yearn after prospering, as if it is the golden unattainable prize of life. The thing everyone else but you has. So often we chase and yearn after this concept of prospering without deep thought (& sometimes no thought) about if or how we could attain it.
So is it possible? Is it possible to attain that state of prospering? To start with, it depends on how you define prospering. If you define it as the dictionary does, to thrive, flourish, be successful, and modern day uses of the word often imply this concept in a financial sense. While we often want to prosper, and in the old sense of the word I believe that it is completely possible to achieve. But, I don’t think that is actually what we are searching for.
What we actually crave is fulfilment. As we yearn to prosper, that our lives may somehow become easy, we miss what we yearn after more deeply. That is, a sense of purpose, value and fulfilment. So, can we achieve this thing we crave so deeply that we often overlook it for more obvious desires? I believe this verse shows us that we can, but only if we live in a certain way. Look how it stipulates at the start of the verse, we must obey the Lord, love the Lord, walk with the Lord and keep His commandments. What does this strict lifestyle return? The Lord promises blessing, to live and multiply and to be blessed in this place. Does that not sound life a fulfilling life? Being blessed by God to live and have a life full of blessings sounds life the best, most rewarding and whole life possible!
Thank you God that it is not only possible to live a prospering and fulfilled life but it is a gift from you when we live your way, for your glory and walking with you. I pray Lord that I would value you more than any of these things that I may live a life of purpose for you for the rest of my life. Amen.
