But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.
2 Thessalonians 3:3 ESV
In days of self love and mantras its often hard to find things which are not just uplifting but also true and God honouring. One thing I love to do, kinda in place of a mantra, is to take a powerful bible verse (like this was today’s one) and repeat it to myself through out the day. Not only is this a good way to familarise and memorise scripture (thus writing it on our hearts) but it also is a great boost. Nothing can encourage, strengthen or cheer the heart like the promises of the Almighty!
When I am repeating the verse, I try to remember who wrote it, (God and the author) as well and the context in which it was written. I often find the best promises were written in the worst circumstances. When you realise that the well loved promise that God has a plan for you was written in the context of exile and Israel’s future restoration, how much more power does it demonstrate than if it was written in a time of peace.
This verse was written in a time when the early church was highly persecuted. So if God was faithful in the midst of all their trouble and strife as well as being able to establish and guard them, can He not also do it in a time of relative peace or even in our own conflict and strife?
I believe He can. I have confidence that these promises are true so that’s why I want them to shape my life, not some floaty pretty words I found in a book. I want to live a life of meaning, power and truth so they are words I am speaking into my life.
