So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
2 Corinthians 4:16 ESV
This verse was exactly what I needed to read this morning. I often get down by how my body seems to unexplainably be wasting away, leaving simple tasks as huge challenges. Today was one of those days, when everything was weak and tired. When even the simplest tasks like getting up in the morning take all your strength its easy to wonder what’s the point. But, this is the point! We can’t afford to lose heart. Yes its true our bodies are all wasting away, its just part of our human condition, but that’s okay. Because the important thing is what is happening in our hearts. Are we being renewed day by day? Are we letting our struggles turn us to Christ, the one through whom all joy, strength, peace, hope and salvation comes? Our singular purpose in life is to live for and point to Christ, its as simple as that! Alternatively, are we losing heart? Are we turning from Christ and trying to rely on our own strength? Its very easy to do. That’s a fact I understand well, perhaps better than I’d like too.
Its very easy to wish away all pain, suffering, wasting away, but unfortunately without that, its also very easy to lose the renewing of our minds and the closest to Christ which only comes through trials and tribulation. The one thing I have come to realise, is that there is beauty in the pain. While I may not enjoy the struggles of life, I treasure the renewing of my mind and the closeness to God which they bring. Truely, they are worth it.
