Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'”
John 7:38 ESV
Do we claim to believe in Christ? What proof of this is there in our lives? While we do not want to become works focused in lieu of grace, we are warned many times in the bible, just like in this passage, there should be some out pouring of this believe in our lives.
One thing we can be looking for is, does living water flow out of our hearts? Is the overflow the Christ’s love, grace, peace, joy etcetera fill our lives and all of the people around us? Can the people around us feel this living water flowing out of us into their lives? Often it is the simple things of life which show it best. Do we see the forgotten members of society? Do we love our neighbours and friends well? Do we still care deeply and practically for our friends and enemies alike? Are we willing to sacrifice our own comforts for others? Are we willing to listen, care and get down into each other’s messes, regardless of their spiritual orientation?
While this is an incredibly challenging list and one I struggle immensely with if I’m honest, its just a drop in the ocean compared to the perfect love Christ has shown us and called us to show others.
It is so important that we let the living water flow out into our lives, communities and worlds. This is what is means to be a Christian!
