A daily verse ~ ways

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord , and on his law he meditates day and night.
Psalm 1:1‭-‬2 ESV

Our ways are important to God. Why else would He care so deeply about what we do? I love the three pieces of advice, the three cautions given here.

1. Do not walk with the wicked. Walking is movement. Don’t intentionally let your life be passed walking with people who don’t love, honour or value God. You will get caught up with them. This is the quickest way to walk away from the one who truely matters.

2. Do not stand with sinners. This brings the image of standing around in public talking with those who are not God fearers. Don’t stand with sinners. Don’t give credit to their ungodly passions or ideas. Be careful to support God honouring people, ideas and causes.

3. Do not sit with scoffers. Sitting implies a level of intimacy. Scoffers tear things down, they don’t take the time to build things up. They belittle good morals, godly practice and often eveything wholesome and holy. Unless you desire to become one of them, be careful where you spend your time, particularly your time of leisure.

I guess this just show how true the old proveb, you are the sum of the people around you, is. It’s so important that the people we put around ourselves are godly, upright, positive people. This doesn’t say we should look after or be friendly or kind to sinners. But it cautions against spending all your time, particularly your social time with them. If you want to become a godly person, prioritise putting mature/more mature Chirstians around you so that you have role models to grow into.
