A daily verse ~ what cost?

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5 ESV

What cost? How often do you stop to think about what we cost? Our transgressions, our inequities, our peace, our healing? Pierced, crushed, chastised, wounded. Thats what we cost. That’s how much we cost God.

I find this, in hand with God’s love, possibly the hardest concept in Christianity to fathom. Why would God be willing to pay such a great cost for a sinner like me? Its so easy to miss the depth of the question while turning to our Sunday school answers – Jesus loves me this I know…

While there is nothing wrong with this answer, in fact I believe when dwelt upon this answer holds incredible depth and truth, we must be careful not to miss the question in our rush for an answer. I believe it is impossible to understand how much God loves us if we do not take time to stop and dwell on how much we cost God, what price He had to pay for us.

It truely is amazing grace!
