And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.”
Mark 9:23 ESV
The man in this story did not understand Jesus power initially. He came to Jesus, explaining that his son had a demon who was trying to kill him and concluded by saying, “But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” (V 22).
What a positive, encouraging response Jesus gives to a man who had given up all hope of his son ever being healed. Instead of beating it around the bush, blaming either the boy or his parents or simply not being capable, Jesus gives the man such hope! If fact, in the next breath the father cried out, “I believe, help my unbelief!”.
What a beautiful interaction, a man helpless and hopeless in desperate need of healing for his son, Jesus not only provides hope but also healing and reaches into the situation, eliciting this heartfelt cry from the father.
This story teaches me two things, one, never underestimate Gods power He is not limited by us or our imagination and two,never give up on anyone, no one is beyond God – all things are possible for God.
