A daily thought ~ words

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:11 ESV

What a poignant reminder this is. How often do we take time to hide, to store up God’s words – bible passages in our heart and memory? Memorisation has really gone out of fashion in our Google culture. I mean, why waste time remembering things when you can just remember how to find them, just google it!

This is specifically what this verse warns us against, not bothering to learn God’s words. When we don’t memorise and learn God’s words, its far to easy to slip into sin and deception. To paraphrase Ps Charles Spurgeon, it is ver hard to see off white unless you compare it to true white. Likewise, it is very easy to accept misconceptions and falsehoods as true, especially if they are mostly true, unless you have the truth written in your heart to compare it to.

Finally, in this side of history, truely storing up God’s words in your heart not only allows us access to God’s word at all times and allows us to see truth, it also allows us to see truth through the in dwelling of the holy spirit. When we live for Christ and are daily living off His word, this strengthens our relationship with Him and the Holy Spirit – the ultimate source of all wisdom, understanding, and help.
