A daily verse ~ who do we serve?

And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord , choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord .”
Joshua 24:15 ESV

Who do we serve? Today on YouVersion, Tim Mackie, one of the founders of the Bible Project gave a really cool devotion on this passage. He explained how when Joshua gave this speech, he wasn’t just comparing Yahweh to the foreign gods, Joshua was comparing what they represented. The foreign gods represented money, economic, prosperity, fertility, science etc and by worshipping one of these, they revolve their life around it. Where as in comparison, Yahweh made all of these things and has control over all of them.

So the question, Joshua posed to the people of Israel and the question Jesus posed to the people remains the same, who will you serve? We all serve someone, do we know who that is, and if they will bring us into eternal life?
