For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.”
Jeremiah 31:25 ESV
Languishing. What an interesting word. It means to be forced to suffer and remain in an unpleasant situation and is often used to describe prisons.
Do you feel like your languishing in this current situation, COVID, riots, general unrest and upheaval. It is a challenging time, unparalleled in most of our lifetimes so far.
With all that’s going on its easy, even perhaps rational, to feel weary and have a sense of languishing in our current mess. I know I’ve definitely been feeling that way recently, especially since my home state has been COVID free for the last few weeks/months and we were finally back to normal for a short while before it all came crashing back down and we are back to masks, lockdowns and general terror. Its hard not to feel discouraged and weary from the relentlessness of it all.
But, I just love the word but when it come to biblical topics, because it comes before some glorious truth!
But, God cares about our suffering, our weariness, He suffers too when we are languishing in a certain situation ~ He cares. How beautiful it is that God promises to satisfy our weary souls and replenish us in our languishing.
What a beautiful picture of Christ stepping down into our mess and bring healing, peace, restoration, hope and most importantly, love. How amazing is the love of God!?
