The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

The wickedness of the heart. Its not an easy pill to swallow. The heart, our flesh is inherently wicked, yet we spend so much of our time making excuses for it.
This is one of the reasons the teachings of the New Testament are so radical. They take this truth (that we all know if we are honest) which is hopeless and provides hope! In the past we had no formal way to overcome the flesh, sacrifices would make up for our sins but it was up to us to control our heart. Since Christ came, He left us with the best gift ever, part of Himself! He left us the Helper, the Holy Spirit who dwells in us and completes the good work of transformation in us.
While we still struggle with flesh and blood, we can be comforted that we are not in this fight alone. We have help, we have company, we have God Himself working in us.
What a marvellous thing Christ has done for us!
