A daily thought ~ fight or flight or…

The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
Exodus 14:14 ESV

Being silent, calm, still (depending on your translation) all covey a similar idea, that of not fighting or fleeing, rather being at peace and waiting.

How often when we are confronted with a challenge, trial or some sort of danger we return to our primitive response of either fight or flight? Its the natural thing to do (along with perhaps freeze) when confronted with either a dangerous or unknown situation. While instincts are good and often vital to our survival, God actually calls us to a different response.

When the Egyptian army was bearing down upon the trapped Israelites, this is exactly what God told them to do, be still and let God fight. What a powerful image that is, to let God fight for you! I know if I am stuck or in danger I would much rather that God was fighting the army not me! But, so often I try to fight instead. I try to get between God and the problem, taking matters into my own hands and then wondering why it isn’t working. What I need to learn to do, is follow this instruction, be still and let God fight.

While I have no idea what battles or armies you may be facing currently, I hope and pray this is an encouragement to you today. Let the Lord fight for you.
